Personality & Angles

Headshot Portrait Photography

A headshot portrait is a photograph of your face that usually includes shoulders. You can use the photo as a profile picture, a professional LinkedIn photo, a headshot to submit to agencies, etc. Headshots are very versatile and can range from professional to personal uses. For the most part, however, headshots are usually used in a professional context.

The headshot is taken from different angles and usually includes one person in which he/she is the main subject of the photo. Some important questions to keep in mind that I will ask to ensure I capture the best headshots are: Will you use these photos for branding? What would you like to be your backdrop? What part of your personality do you want reflected in your headshots? Are there specific poses you are looking for, or do you want more natural shots?

Comfortable And Relaxed

Headshot Posing

Knowing what you are looking for in your headshot portrait and capturing that vision is very important to me. If you need a professional headshot for your career, it can be stressful. My job is to make you feel secure and comfortable during our session while capturing the headshots you envisioned. One of the ways this is done, is through posing.

Depending on what you prefer, the posing can be guided or more on the natural side. Since many clients tend to get camera-shy, they usually opt for some guided posing. I will guide you on how to pose your facial expression, eyes, back posture, chin, body, hands, and arms. My posing is more of a guidance and not a “hold and stay there” kind of posing that produces “stiff” pictures. I strive to create natural-looking photos even with posing guidance.

Varied

Headshot Portrait Location

When it comes to headshot photography, the location can vary depending on the look you are going for. If you are going for more of a professional headshot then the background could include a clean background, while a more relaxed style of headshot could include a more colorful or environmental background.

I will identify your goals during the pre-consultation session to determine what background will be best to convey the message you are trying to send with the headshots. You just tell me the look you are going for and I will research the best background to capture your ideal headshot — and if you already have a background in mind, even better!

A Fine Line...Literally

Headshot Retouching

Retouching headshots is a very important part of a successful headshot that is often overlooked or not even mentioned. There is a fine line when it comes to good retouching and bad retouching. You want the photo to still look natural while removing unnecessary marks or blemishes. Many retouchers over edit the headshot where the subject could end up looking like a porcelain doll.

Having taken many retouching courses and editing my photos using state of the art software such as Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop, I make it a point to retouch the photo while making it remain natural. Since a photograph captures a specific moment of time, we often do not take the time to freeze and investigate the details in one’s face like we do in a headshot photograph. As a result, sometimes details in a headshot portait can be discovered that we can be sensitive to. Since this happens, small changes such as softening or lightening under the eyes, retouching unwanted blemishes or unwanted marks, and softly reducing smile lines can make a big positive impact on a headshot.

Portrait Portfolio & Gallery

My portrait portfolio showcases some of my favorite portraits throughout my career. The photos include headshots, lifestyle portraits, individual family portraits, fashion portraits, etc. The editing style in each photo differs and is based on what the client wants from the particular shoot.

Some edits range from a more social media (Instagram) perspective to headshots for personal and professional use or for other platforms such as Facebook or LinkedIn.

I have a wide range of editing styles based on working with numerous clients who had different needs. You can find my personal editing style within my Orange County portrait portfolio. If there is a particular editing style you are looking for let me know!

*small travel fee if outside Orange County

Do I get to select the images?

Part of my job is making the image selects and choosing the most flattering photos. I do not want to deliver images that are repeats, blurry, out of focus, shots of you blinking, or mid-sentence speaking.

I do not withhold any images, I only remove the “bad” ones based on the criteria listed above.

Can I edit the Images?

I ask that my clients do not add filters or crop any of the final edited images. I spend time ensuring the color balance and tones are correct in each image! If you want a particular edit style please let me know before the shoot and I can accommodate since I have experience editing many different styles.

What about time and location?

I suggest blocking out 2 hours for your shoot the time. My timeframes are pretty generous. I usually wrap up earlier if I am able to shoot quickly.

I plan shoots based on one location and its surrounding area. There is a small additional fee for each additional “location.”

What if I need to cancel?

I ask for a $100 electronic non-refundable deposit to secure your session date + time. If you need to cancel you can put your deposit toward a re-schedule or you can have it refunded.
